Lesser Pied Kingfisher

Identification - Medium sized black and white kingfisher with a clearly visible crest. Bill and feet black, belly is whitish. Male has two black breast bands while the Female only a single breast band which is broken in the center.

Can be seen near tanks, lakes an other water bodies. Mostly seen hovering (flapping there wings in order to remain stationary in air) over water bodies. 

[ Can be found in Urban wet land parks in Colombo(Diyasaru wet land park, Thalangama Lake)]

Nesting - Nest in holes made in banks of water bodies.
