White-throated kingfisher

 

Halcyon smyrnensis

Identification - Most commonly seen kingfisher in Sri Lanka.Chocolate brown head and belly, throat and the center of the breast is white. Bright blue mantle, back, rump and tail. Red bill and feet. Juvenile has a yellow tipped bill and the tail is short. 

Voice

Can be seen throughout Sri Lanka ( Common garden bird). Feeds on small insects and lizards. 

Nesting - Nest in holes made in banks of water bodies.
