Plegadis falcinellus
Identification- Smaller than the commonly seen Black-headed Ibis. Easily identified by the down curved bill and the greenish and purplish glossy colour. Non-Breeding plumage Blackish grey overall wings glossy greenish, white streaks seen on head and neck. Breeding plumage head blackish with white patch at the base of the bill. Brownish purple neck wings glossy greenish.
Now a Rare winter visitor to Sri Lanka but was a breeding resident. Can be seen in paddy field in Colombo, lagoons and other water sources in the migratory season .
