Brown-breasted Flycatcher

(Muscicapa muttui)

Brown-breasted Flycatcher, is a small winter migrant to Sri Lanka, usually found in shaded forest undergrowth and dense woodland. It is a quiet bird that often keeps close to the lower canopy or forest floor, making short sallies to catch insects before returning to the same perch. The upperparts are warm olive-brown with slightly rufous tones on the tail and wings, while the underparts are pale brown on the breast, fading to buffy white towards the belly and vent. A distinct pale eye-ring and pale lores give the bird a gentle expression, and its pale flesh-coloured legs help separate it from the similar Asian Brown Flycatcher, which has darker legs. During the northern winter, this species migrates from breeding areas in north-eastern India, southern China, Myanmar, and Thailand to southern India and Sri Lanka, where it remains a secretive but regular forest visitor.
