Yellow-browed Bulbul
(Acritillas indica)
The yellow-browed bulbul is a lively and attractive forest bird usually encountered in the mid-canopy of wet evergreen forests and wooded hills of southern India and Sri Lanka. Its olive-green upperparts blend well with the foliage, while the bright yellow underparts, bold yellow eyebrow, and distinctive yellow eye-ring stand out clearly in good light. Unlike many bulbuls, it lacks a crest and appears smooth-headed with a fairly slender build. The black bill contrasts with the reddish-brown iris, often noticeable at close range. Birds are commonly seen singly, in pairs, or moving quietly with mixed feeding flocks, actively searching leaves and branches for insects, berries, and small fruits. Its calls are rich, ringing whistles and bubbling notes that carry through the forest, often revealing its presence before the bird itself is seen.04/01/2026 at Meethirigala Nissarana Forrest
